What’s the best way to get to Park Güell?

Posted by

Park Güell is located on a hill in northern Barcelona – in the Gràcia district. It’s easily accessible by public transport, but all routes involve an uphill climb. Here’s how to get to Park Güell – by metro, bus, taxi, or car.

Go to the main Park Güell Barcelona page

By Metro

The metro is the easiest and cheapest option. There are two convenient stations:

L3 (green line) – Lesseps station: about a 20-minute walk, slightly uphill.

L3 – Vallcarca station: similar distance, but with escalators on Baixada de la Glòria street – ideal in hot weather or with children.

From both stations, the entrance on Carrer de Sant Josep de la Muntanya is the most convenient. Several escalators there will assist you with the ascent.

By Bus

The bus is a convenient alternative if you want to arrive directly at the top of the park.

Bus 24: runs from Plaça de Catalunya via Passeig de Gràcia directly to the Carretera del Carmel entrance (upper entrance, free zone).

Bus V19: connects the Barceloneta beach area with the park (stop “Ramiro de Maeztu – C N Catalunya”).

Tip: Bus 24 is ideal for those who don’t want to walk uphill – you can board directly in the city center.

By Taxi

A taxi is particularly convenient for families or groups. The ride from the city center (e.g., Plaça de Catalunya) takes about 15 minutes and costs approximately €10–15. Taxis are permitted to drive almost to the entrances – ideally to Carrer d’Olot (main entrance to the Monumental Zone).

By Car

While it is possible to drive, parking is scarce. There are a few parking spaces along Carretera del Carmel and some paid parking garages in the Gràcia district.

Tip: Buses connect the park to the monumental zone. Tip: If you’re coming by car, you can reserve a parking space online in advance:

On foot or by e-scooter

Active visitors can also reach the park on foot from the Gràcia district (approx. 25 minutes uphill). Alternatively, e-scooters or bicycles are permitted, but must be parked outside the Monumental Zone.

Recommended entrances

Entrance Advantage
Carrer d’Olot Main entrance, access to the monumental zone
Sant Josep de la Muntanya with escalators, convenient ascent
Carretera del Carmel upper entrance, free area

Conclusion: The most convenient way

The easiest way to reach Park Güell is by taking the L3 metro to Vallcarca or bus 24. If you prefer to walk, take the escalators at Sant Josep de la Muntanya. Only drive if you have booked a parking space in advance.
